Wild swimming spots in the Lake District?
I'm planning a trip to the Lake District this summer and would love to try some wild swimming while I'm there. I'm an intermediate swimmer looking for locations that aren't too challenging but still offer a good experience. Ideally, I'd prefer spots that aren't too crowded - happy to walk a bit further to find more secluded places. I've read about Rydal Water and Grasmere, but I've heard they can get quite busy in peak season. Are there any lesser-known spots that locals or regular visitors would recommend? Also, any tips on the best times of day to visit would be appreciated. Safety is important to me too, so any advice on currents, water temperature, or other things to be aware of would be really helpful. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

One of my favorite spots is Tongue Pot on the River Esk. It's a bit of a walk to get there (about 45 minutes from the nearest parking), but that means it's usually quiet even in summer. The pool is deep and clear with some lovely rock ledges for jumping if you're feeling brave. Water temperature is bracing even in summer - I'd recommend a wetsuit unless we're having a heatwave!
Black Moss Pot in Borrowdale is worth considering. It's popular with locals but often overlooked by tourists. There's a deep pool with a small waterfall and some rocks for jumping. Early morning (before 9am) or evening (after 6pm) are the best times to avoid any crowds. Just be careful after heavy rain as the current can get stronger.
